Calvin Wan’s Drifting Performance Handbook

Calvin Wan’s Drifting Performance Handbook, published by Motorbooks International, covers the sport of drifting as a whole. I go over all aspects of this spectacular motorsport along with the driving aspects and car setups that go along with it. It’s a great book for people may want read up on drifting techniques and figure out what type of car to build or think about their setup to get their car ready for the track.
I broke down the book into different chapters covering the history of drifting, different driving fundamentals including racing, drifting and tandem techniques, selecting car types and car setup, along with the competition aspect of the sport.
I explained different drifting techniques throughout the drifting fundamental chapters. One example is with the drifting initiations. Drifts are initiated by breaking the rear tire’s traction. You can do this by either quickly accelerating or decelerating the rear tires or by transferring the car’s weight enough to break the rear traction. I broke down drift initiations into 3 categories: Accelerating Initiations, Deceleration Initiations, and Weight Transfer Initiations. Under the Acceleration Initiations I describe how to perform: Power Over, Clutch Kick, and Up Shift techniques. The Deceleration Initiations are the E Brake and Shift Lock techniques. And finally the Weight Transfer Initiations consist of Trial Braking, Lift Throttle, and Feint techniques.
Another section of the book that I think would be useful for people that are trying to decide which chassis to use for drifting is the Drift Chassis Listing. This listing shows all different types of possible drift chassis organized by car types and chassis codes and shows the wheelbases and curb weights of all of them.
I also have a Handling Correction Guild that lists different settings you can adjust to correct various handling issues your car is having. It is a quick guild that you can reference quickly to help you set up your car.
There are tons of awesome photos throughout the book shot by renown motorsport photographer, Antonio Alvendia. So if anything you can enjoy the book for its photography as it captures this historic era of US drifting we are currently in.
Calvin Wan’s Drifting Performance Handbook is available internationally through all major book retailers including Barnes & Noble, Border’s, Amazon.com and many others.
